چکیده

In 1992, he completed his PhD thesis on Petri nets and their application to logistics. His research interests are in simulation, information systems, business process redesign, manufacturing and real-time systems. He is also working as a part-time consultant for Bakkenist Management Consultants. Kees van Hee studied Mathematics at the University of Leiden. In 1978 he completed his PhD thesis in the area of Operations Research. From 1978 till 1984 he was managing director of AKB bv in Rotterdam. Since 1984 he is a professor of Computing Science at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research interests are in formal and executable speciications for distributed (information) systems, workkow management systems and (interactive) planning systems. Since 1994 he is also a member of the board of directors of Bakkenist Management Consultants. Re-engineering business processes seems to be a necessity in order to survive and prosper in todays competitive world. To support business process re-engineering (BPR) eeorts we propose a framework based on high-level Petri nets. This framework is used to model and analyse business processes. The use of high-level Petri nets provides us with advanced analysis techniques and sophisticated software tools. To support the use of this Petri-net-based framework, we also present thè'What, how and by whom?" approach. This approach has been developed to guide the application of the framework in a BPR-setting. Thè'What, how and by whom?" approach identiies three important stages in the (re)design of a business process. By passing though these stages we obtain a complete Petri net model of the current (As-is) or proposed (To-be) situation. Whereupon Petri-net-based analysis techniques can be used to verify the correctness and estimate the performance of the (re)designed business process.

Deterministic Measurement of Reliability and Performance Using Explicit Colored Petri Net in Business Process Execution Language and Eflow

Today there are many techniques for web service compositions. Evaluation of quality parameters has great impact on evaluation of final product. BPEL is one of those techniques that several researches have been done on its evaluation. However, there are few researches on evaluation of QoS in eflow. This research tries to evaluate performance and reliability of eflow and BPEL through mapping them...

Business Process Redesign at a Mental Healthcare Institute:

Business Process Redesign aims to radically improve the performance of business processes. One of the approaches to derive such an improved process design is an evolutionary approach, making use of redesign heuristics (Reijers, 2003). Simulation of the redesigned business process comes into play if one has to decide whether the redesign is better than the previous process design, or if one need...

On the Formal Generation of Process Redesigns

Business Process Redesign (BPR) is a process oriented methodology to improve organizations. Although literature on BPR is available in abundance, little concrete support on how to get from as is towards to be is available [12]. We propose the use of an evolutionary redesign approach that is based on BPR best practices to fill this gap. The approach is evolutionary in nature, because local updat...

A Redesign Framework for Call Centers

An important shortcoming in the Business Process Redesign (BPR) literature is the lack of concrete guidance on how to improve an existing business process. Our earlier work has aimed at filling this gap by identifying a set of BPR best practices. This paper takes a further step by showing how a set of best practices can be used to derive a redesign framework for a specific domain, in this case ...

Using the Petri Net Markup Language for Exchanging Business Processes

The Petri Net Markup Language (PNML) is an XML-based interchange format for Petri nets. Its focus is on universality and flexibility, which is achieved by a technique for defining new Petri net types through Petri Net Type Definitions (PNTDs). Many business process modelling techniques are based on Petri nets. Since PNML provides a means for defining Petri net types, it might be a worthwhile pr...
